About
My name is Godfrey Leung
My work focuses on character-driven artwork inspired by anime, manga, video games, and sports, combining semi-realistic portraiture, bold linework, and cinematic lighting.
Growing up with Japanese anime and manga of the 1980s and 1990s, I was deeply influenced by the expressive storytelling and distinctive artistic styles of that era. From the work of Takehiko Inoue to classics such as Saint Seiya and Akira, these influences helped shape the way I see and create art.
Today, I bring that old-school artistic sensibility into contemporary subjects. Rather than simply reproducing existing characters, I reinterpret them through my own perspective, blending the visual language of the past with the stories and characters of the present.
I see my work as art across generations — a personal bridge between the era that inspired me and the world I create in today.
After stepping away from drawing for 22 years, finding my way back to art felt almost unreal. It became more than rediscovering something I loved — it gave me a renewed sense of purpose, creative energy, and the will to keep dreaming.
Today, I exhibit my work at conventions throughout the Northeast, where I have the opportunity to share my creations, meet fellow fans, and connect with a growing community of collectors.
SFU Illustration is where I continue developing my voice as an artist, exploring new ideas, and sharing what I create both online and in person.
SOUL TO SOUL
The Japanese character 魂 (Tamashii) means "soul," and it represents the philosophy behind SFU Illustration.
I believe art carries something of the person who creates it — their passion, memories, influences, and emotions.
When someone connects with a piece of my work, that connection gives the artwork a new meaning. What began as my personal expression becomes part of someone else's story.
Art Born from Passion. Created with Soul. Collected with Meaning.
What excites me most is what I'm creating now — and where it takes me next.
From my soul to yours. And from yours to another.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Every convention is more than an opportunity to showcase my artwork. It's a chance to meet fellow fans, share stories, and connect with the people who find meaning in my work.
To everyone who has visited my booth, supported my art, or taken a piece of SFU Illustration home — thank you for being part of this journey.
Every piece begins with passion, carries a part of my soul, and finds new meaning with the person who collects it.
From my soul to yours.
